Our vision for this monthly newsletter is to educate travel agents about travel insurance programs and to offer information about iTI services and personnel. Our business is a people business and it is all about relationships. We hope that you will get to know us and the travel insurance industry a little bit better through this newsletter.
Quote For the Month:
"Too many people think only of their own profit. But business opportunity seldom knocks on the door of self-centered people. No customer ever goes to a store merely to please the storekeeper."
Kazuo Inamori
Monthly Marketing Question
Are you one of the many travel agents that do not include a travel insurance quote on each of your invoices to your clients? Would an increase in the number of customers who select travel insurance grow your bottom line? If so, then "invoicing" is for you!
Invoicing is the simple process of quoting the price of insurance on each and every itinerary you prepare for your travelers. Most agencies that invoice list the price of travel insurance as a separate line item in the total cost of the travel package, and will have the client pay for the insurance at the time of deposit. Additionally, when you invoice you create an electronic record that documents that your client elected or declined the offer. The benefit of invoicing is threefold: (i) it conveys a positive message to your clients that you have their best interest in mind, and it helps reduce your professional liability exposure; (ii) it increases your revenue stream from travel insurance referrals; (iii) it reduces the time you spend explaining travel insurance.
The Numbers
A recent study conducted by iTI found that a travel agent will likely sell insurance on 10% of their trips if they simply hand out a brochure. Agents that require a signed waiver form stating the client wishes to decline the insurance will likely sell insurance on 45% of their trips. An agent invoicing the travel insurance cost to every travel itinerary will likely increase the insurance acceptance rate to 60% or higher.
Consider invoicing a travel insurance program as an easy way to help protect both your client and your travel agency.
